Accreditation with AdvancED

The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on School Improvement, a division of AdvancED. AdvancED is a global leader in providing continuous improvement and accreditation services to over 32,000 institutions serving 20 million students worldwide. Accreditation provides an international protocol that commits to systemic, systematic, and sustainable improvement. It helps build our capacity to improve, increase and sustain student learning. It also stimulates and improves effectiveness and efficiency throughout the institution.

The initial accreditation was awarded in June 2015 following an external review visit in March 2015. In preparation for the external review, a thorough self-study was made of SIS by teachers, administrators, parents and students. The self-study report is a thoughtful reflection on all aspects of the school. The Self-Study and the External Report are community documents. Both are available for download. The Executive Summary from the Self-Study is a public document and can be found online at the AdvancED website. (www.advanc-ed.org)

Accreditation is granted for a five year period. The school director is expected to make reports to AdvancED when the school experiences substantive change and keep them informed about school improvement efforts. For quality assurance AdvancED reserves the right to make unplanned visits to the school when it deems them necessary or by request of stakeholder groups.

The AdvancED Standards for Quality are:

Standard 1 Purpose and Direction: The school maintains and communicates a purpose and direction that commit to high expectations for learning as well as shared values and beliefs about teaching and learning.

Standard 2: Governance and Leadership: The school operates under governance and leadership that promote and support student performance and school effectiveness.

Standard 3: Teaching and Assessing for Learning: The school’s curriculum, instructional design, and assessment practices guide and ensure teacher effectiveness and student learning.

Standard 4: Resources and Support Systems: The school has resources and provides services that support its purpose and direction to ensure success for all students.

Standard 5: Using Results for Continuous Improvement: The school implements a comprehensive assessment system that generates a range of data about student learning and school effectiveness and uses the results to guide continuous improvement.
