Richard Carl Wieburg, Director

Richard Carl Wieburg, Director

Mr. Wieburg was born in Arkansas, but moved to many different states as a child. His father trained running quarter horses and the family followed the racing circuit.

He attended Arizona State University, graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate, and received a commission as an officer in the U.S. Army. After spending a year fighting in Viet Nam where he received a Bronze Start and many commendations from the South Vietnamese, he left the Army and began his teaching career.

He taught English and coached Varsity basketball teams for almost thirty years, in three different states, before he decided to go into school administration. After receiving a Masters Degree from Angelo State University and certifications to become a Principal and Superintendent of Schools, he left teaching and was offered a position as a high school and junior high school Principal.

Ten years later he was offered the job as Director of Cochabamba Cooperative School in Bolivia. After two years there, he became the Director of Colegio Interamericano in Guatemala City. Both of these schools saw a tremendous grown in students and a rise in Academic Standards under his leadership.

He then retire for two years in Texas so that he and his wife, Joeline, could spend time with their children and grandchildren, but he found retirement was not for him.

Three different schools offered him a job as Director, but he and his wife decided he would accept the position in Suriname.

His positive attitude on life and his ever present “can do” attitude soon permeate any school he leads.
