History

SIS is the only non-religious English speaking international school in Paramaribo. It was founded as a non-profit foundation in 2010 by a group of parents seeking a quality international school in Paramaribo based on strong ethics and values in a culturally diverse educational environment.

Respect for religious, political, social, and cultural  differences is a fundamental part of the school’s identity. The multicolored banner that forms a part of the school brand represents the inclusive nature and philosophy of the school.

The school originally adopted the Calvert homeschooling program for its  first three years of operation, but in August 2013 embraced its own academic program based on US Common Core standards and a holistic, student-centered learning experience.

In June 2015, the school was accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), the accreditation division of AdvancED.

This marks the culmination of a multi-year process in which the school has worked toward meeting International Standards of Quality.
